Weldon Library Board Meeting Minutes
October 18 2016
The meeting was called to order@ 7:04 PM by Secretary Bob Walters in the board meeting room of the Weldon Public Library.
The roll-call was conducted by Secretary Bob Walters. Pat Brown arrived at 7:05, and Tracy Young arrived at 7:07 PM. Susan Westray, Christi Baker, Alycia Brockman, Amanda Walters and Bob Walters were all present. Librarian Lori Weaver was also present.
Secretary Bob Walters read the minutes of the September 20th meeting. There was a motion by Amanda Walters, second by Christi Baker, to accept the minutes as read. The vote was 7 – 0.
No one was present for the public forum item on the agenda.
There were no closed session items for the board to discuss.
Treasurer’s Report: was given by Treasurer Christi Baker.
The September 1, 2016, beginning balance was $18,993.23. Total receipts for the month were $4.31. Disbursements for September amounted to $5,232.40. This activity resulted in a September 30th ending balance of $13,765.14. The September payroll and October bills were also reviewed. There was a motion by Susan Westray, second by Alycia Brockman, to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. The vote was 7 – 0.
Librarian’s Report: was given by librarian, Lori Weaver.
The Pre-K visit was October 6th at the school. It featured new books for the 20 class members. The next visit will be November 10th.
The High School/Middle School book club is doing well. They are presently reading “The Living” and will next read “Runaway”.
Early dismissal for this month was Wednesday, October 5th. It was attended by 37 well behave kids and eight adults. The next early dismissal will be November 2nd.
Halloween celebrations will be held on Monday, October 31st, at the fire house from 5 to 6 PM, and at the library from 5 to 8 PM sponsored by the Lane Christian Church.
Family Reading Night at the school will be Tuesday, November 15th, with two costumes.
The preview books for the book fair at the school have been ordered.
The second installment of tax monies have been received - $24,035.11.
The candy/soda sales have produced a profit of $149.29.
A new Illinois law allowing library districts to serve alcohol was discussed. The board decided we needed more information, so the item was tabled until we get more information.
E-Book activity for the month was 31,328 items.
The Farm Progress Show wants donations for next August’s show in Decatur. They prefer cash, but Lori will donate some paperbacks and volunteer to work at the library booth.
The theme for the Summer Reading program will be “Reading by Design”.
The petitions for library board member election candidates must be notarized and turned in by December 20th.
The board reviewed policies #7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Due to some conflicts, the board discussed moving our next meeting to Monday, November 14th. There was a motion by Amanda Walters, second by Alycia Brockman, to move our next meeting to Monday, November 14th. The vote was 7 – 0.
Bob has made arrangements for tilling up the areas where grass is missing or thin at the rear of the library. It should be completed soon, sewed in shade grass seed, and covered with straw.
There was one suggestion for New Business for our next meeting. We will discuss sponsoring a New Years’ Party at noon for kids.
Having no other business to discuss, there was a motion by Susan Westray, second by Amanda Walters, to adjourn. The vote was 7 – 0. Meeting adjourned at 8:13 PM.
