Weldon Library Board Meeting Minutes

For September 20, 2016

 

    The meeting was called to order at 7:01 PM by President Pat Brown in the board meeting room of the Weldon Public Library.

    Secretary Bob Walters conducted the roll-call. Pat Brown, Susan Westray, Christi Baker, Alycia Brockman, Amanda Walters, Tracy Young and Bob Walters were all present. Librarian Lori Weaver was also present.

    Secretary Bob Walters read the minutes of the August 16th meeting. There was a motion by Susan Westray, second by Alycia Brockman, to accept the minutes as read with a name correction. The vote was 7 – 0.

    No one was present for the public forum item on the agenda.

    There were no closed session items for the board to consider.

    Treasurer’s Report: was given by Christi Baker.

The August 1, 2016, beginning balance was $29,318.57. Receipts for the month totaled $21.32. Disbursements amounted to $10, 346.66. This activity resulted in an August 31st ending balance of $18, 993.23. The August payroll and September bills were also reviewed. There was a motion by Bob Walters, second by Tracy Young, to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. The vote was 7 – 0.

    Librarian’s Report: was given by Librarian Lori Weaver.

    The Pre-K visits to D-W school will be on the second Thursday of each month.

    The High School and Middle School Book Clubs are just getting started. They met on Wednesday at lunch, with 8 attendees the first week and 15 lastweek. They are reading “Emma and Oliver” to be followed next week by “The Christopher Killer”.

    The school early dismissal day will be the first Wednesday of the month. Last Wednesday, September 7th, Lori had different stations set up for different games and activities. There were 22 students and six adults in attendance.

    The Library won second place prize of $150.00 in the Village Beautification Contest.

    Lori passed out the bi-monthly report for the July/August time period. Titles circulated, transactions, and patron attendance continue to grow.

    The fee to renew the Enfold website for the coming year will be $432.00.

    The Cloud Library update started a new app on Tuesday, September 20th. The total circulation for the month of August was 31,844.

    IPLAR report was completed and submitted electronically.

    September 20th is the first day to circulate petitions for election to the library board next April. They must be filed between December 12th and 19th.

    Lori has updated our library inspection report. Light bulbs need replaced, bricks in the reading garden are crumbling and need to be replaced, and the grass in the rear of the library needs to be reseeded.

    OLD BUSINESS

    The board reviewed the proposed Ordinance 16-04, Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance. There was a motion by Alycia Brockman, second by Christi Baker, to accept the ordinance as proposed. The vote was 7 – 0.

    The Treasurer’s Annual Report has been completed.

    The Comptroller’s Report has been submitted.

    NEW BUSINESS

    The board reviewed Policies # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

    Policy 1 – Library Rules – add chewing tobacco to banned substances.

    Policy 2 – Library Operating Schedule – no changes

    Policy 3 – Cost of Services – no changes

    Policy 4 – Meeting Room Policy – no changes

    Policy 5 – Exhibits – no change

    Policy 6 – Material Selection Policy – no changes

 

    There were no suggested topics for new business for our meeting next month.

    Having no other business to conduct, there was a motion by Susan Westray, second by Alycia Brockman, to adjourn. The vote was 7 – 0. Meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.
